We are currently anchored in a beautiful bay named Bahia San Franciscito. (aka, little San Francisco..to which it bears no resemblance). Since my last post, we have passed through (in south to north order)
Loreto - lots of ex-pats have settled here. A highlight was finding Tacos Nany which had new heart table cloths set on tables set on finely raked dirt. The food was delicious and served by a pleasant lady. Another highlight was walking around the first mission ever to be built in Baja California. Brian and Eila found the rope to the bell tower and pretended they were going to pull it!
Bahia Conception (Santispac beach) - anchored for a few days. This area is known to have many whale sharks. We dinghied all around looking in likely places but saw instead: one sea turtle, many very large puffer fish, quite a few rays, a very fine beach to explore, and boobies. Then our friends Ron and Noe showed up and we got some errands run in town since they are in a truck. We had a meal aboard (some of the tuna we caught that was still in the freezer)
Punta Chivato - This beach had huge drifts of sea shells, many hundreds of feet in length and about 2 feet deep in the deepest places. We have a beautiful collection of shells now ;) Another fun thing was talking to a guy named Chuck from Idaho. He was knowledgeable and friendly. We have been missing interactions with other humans!
Santa Rosalia - an old copper mining town from the 1800s. Highlights were tacos in town, and an ice cream store with home made ice cream that uses real fruit!
Bahia Santa Teresa- The water is getting clear again! We saw a turtle, and went to the beach and explored old turtle tracks leading to turtle nests. Maybe one of them still has eggs but I didn't want to disturb. So many coyote prints on this beach! We are in very rural places.
Ok, I'm all caught up on anchorages. about 150 miles left to go to get to Puerto Penasco on the mainland.
