And so, with Skagua getting tucked away in it's dusty, noisy boatyard surrounded by razor wire and other boats of all shapes and sizes, we are moving on to the next phase. I was talking about it with my friend and she said something like, "well the boat part of this year is just your opening act, you're moving on to the main event, now." It's an interesting thought, because we have been so immersed in the ups and downs of the sailing venture that the upcoming Family Discipleship Training (FDTS) we are heading towards has felt far away and hard to believe. And yet here it is, less than a month away.
On top of all of the changing needs throughout 2024, there were many changing plans when life told us “no” or “go a different way.” It has sometimes felt as if we were falling apart from the stressors tugging on us.
“For the things which You fill by containing them, do not sustain and support you as a water vessel supports the liquid which fills it. Even if they were broken to pieces, you would not flow out of them and away. And when you pour yourself out over us, you are not drawn down to us but draw us up to yourself. You are not scattered away but you gather us together.” St. Augustine
And so, in an attempt to lean in to God’s nature of holding broken things together, we are preparing for the "Main Event" the five-months family mentorship and service located on a ranch outside of Ensenada Mexico . We are looking forward to a place whose vision is to create a “dynamic environment for a family’s spiritual development”.
There are two sections of the school. The first eleven weeks are mostly classroom style with a different topic per week. Kids are taught separately in age cohorts. There is plenty of time for homeschool, making friends, and serving around the ranch. Towards the end of the that first 11 weeks, teams will form and pray about where the eleven weeks of outreach will be spent. Past outreaches have included going to and working with an orphanage in Africa, supporting churches and evangelism in Mexico, etc . We do not know where ours will be, yet.
What we do know is that we will be living in a little green A-Frame cottage in a line up of other cute green cottages with no indoor plumbing. There are 10 other families from various parts of the world with whom we will be doing life.
